Slovenian candidate elected to Human Rights Committee
Professor Sancin’s election is an important validation of her work on human rights and international law, while it also corroborates Slovenia’s international standing, even more so during Slovenia’s ongoing presidency of the UN Human Rights Council.
The Human Rights Committee monitors the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which inter alia defines the inherent right to life, the prohibition of torture and slavery, the right to liberty and security of person, the right to freedom of expression, and many other fundamental rights underpinning a democratic society. The Human Rights Committee is composed of 18 renowned legal experts who are persons of high moral character and recognised competence in the field of human rights, and serve in their personal capacity.
Professor Sancin is an eminent expert on international law and author of numerous publications, with a strong background in international human rights law. She engages in both academic and research work at the national and international levels.
The Permanent Mission of Slovenia to the United Natons sincerely congratulates Professor Sancin on her election to the Human Rights Committee.
