Slovenia addresses Annual Session of the UNICEF Executive Board

New York, 5 June 2012 - Slovenia adressed the Annual Session of the Executive Board of UNICEF. While recognizing that not a lot has changed since the last Annual Session - world still finds itself in the midst of global financial crisis, causing rising food and fuel prices, proliferating humanitarian emergencies, climate change, and widening gaps between the rich and the poor – Slovenia called for renewal of last year’s promises of keeping children high on the agendas.

Slovenia commended the activities and achievements of UNICEF in implementing the focus area 4, which devotes particular attention to protection of children from violence, exploitation and abuse, especially to the issues of violence against children and children and armed conflict, and is therefore at the core of Slovenia’s foreign policy.

Slovenia also welcomed the establishment of the new Disability unit in UNICEF.
