Ambassador Štiglic addressed the UNICEF Executive Board meeting on the Commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the Optional Protocols to the Convention on the Rights of the Child

New York, 3 June 2010 – Ambassador Sanja Štiglic stressed that hundreds of thousands of girls and boys are bought, sold or kidnapped and used as slaves around the world each year. Better promotion and implementation of the Protocols is therefore needed at all levels to protect children from violations of their rights.

Ambassador Štiglic presented Slovenian experiences with ratification and implementation of the Protocols and emphasized the importance of the universal ratification and of better implementation of the Protocols. She underlined that emphasis should be placed on education campaigns, training, advocacy, awareness raising, collecting appropriate data and information and promotion of good practices.
