The Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court held its ninth session in New York from 6 to 10 December 2010. Ambassador Christian Wenaweser was presiding over the Assembly of States Parties, Ms. Simona Drenik from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia held the position of Rapporteur.
The Assembly of States Parties adopted several resolutions (on the programme budget for 2011, permanent premises, governance, the Independent Oversight Mechanism and on Strengthening the International Criminal Court and the Assembly of States Parties), discussed the outcomes of the Review Conference in Kampala, elected a new Vice-President of the Assembly and Coordinator of the New York Working Group and decided to defer the election of the President of the Assembly for the period of the tenth to the twelfth sessions until beginning of the tenth session.
Ms. Simona Drenik addressed the Assembly of States Parties and pointed out the importance of the Review Conference in Kampala and the consensus on the amendment on the Crime of Aggression as one of the major achievements in the history of International law. She stressed that Slovenia advocates reaching universality of the Court; that the cooperation between the Court and the States Parties could be strengthened and that only the most professional and distinguished candidates for the positions of judges should be nominated by States Parties.
