New York, 11 May 2011 – H.E. Mr. Roko Žarnić, Minister of the Environment and Spatial Plannig signed on behalf of the Republic of Slovenia the Nagoya - Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol on Liability and Redress to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety.
The signature ceremony was held during the high-level segment of the nineteenth session of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development.
The new supplementary Protocol provides international rules and procedure on liability and redress for damage to biodiversity resulting from living modified organisms. It will enter into force 90 days after being ratified by at least 40 Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety.
