Folk Music Concert of Slavic Peoples

New York, 24 May 2011 – The Forum of Slavic Culture (FSC), an international institution based in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the UN organized a Slavic folk music concert which was held on the occasion of the International Day of Slavic Literature at the United Nations General Assembly hall Tuesday evening.

Ms Andreja Rihter, Chair of the Forum, at the opening of the concert stressed the importance of cultural exchange among Slavic countries and the significant work that the Forum has been doing since its creation. The FSC is building on cultural diversity, “every step of establishing the Forum was a lesson on Slavic cultures, their wealth and variety”, highlighted Ms Rihter. Addressing the audience in the name of the organizer, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Mr. Alexander Pankin outlined the special role of the FSC in preserving national identity and uniting Slavic peoples in globalized world. He expressed special gratitude to the Republic of Slovenia for its role in the Forum, which brings together 13 countries.

Artists coming from almost all member states of FSC participated at the event. Slovenia was represented by Ljoba Jenče with two folk songs: Faronica Fish and Chin, Chin, Chin Drezhnica.
